Thank you to families for your support of the Scholastic Book Club already this year. As a result of each term's family purchases, the kindergarten receives vouchers for the purchase of resources for the children. We like to ensure that the kindy library is stocked with the highest quality children's literature so we very much appreciate your support with our Book Club. Here is our first purchase of books for 2016.
Ever wanted to meet a dinosaur? Dino Zoo at The Cube is the closest you can get to the real thing – minus the danger of being eaten! Our life-sized dinosaurs are the most scientifically accurate portrayals of these creatures in the world. And, thanks to artificial intelligence, our dinosaurs will even behave like the real thing, based on a set of behavioural parameters for each species.
The Cube team has partnered with Queensland Museum's renowned paleontologist Dr Scott Hocknull to recreate these hyper-realistic, prehistoric reptiles and their environment, all backed by the latest research. Kids bump their heads; it's a fact of life akin to skinned knees and stubbed toes. The problem is skinned knees heal over whereas an undiagnosed concussion can be more serious for small children.
In response to an increase in child sports concussions the Children's Hospital at Westmead in Sydney has launched an awareness campaign on the signs and symptoms of concussion and what do to in the case of a suspected concussion. Hi all new Kindy parents,
Hope you are all settling into the Kindy routine, and your children are enjoying our wonderful Kindy. To raise funds for the Kindy's 50th Anniversary Celebrations we are holding a Sweet Stall at Aspley Hypermarket on Saturday 19th March. If you can help out by making sweets, assisting with packing, or help man the stall on the day we'd love to hear from you! Please see the Fundraising Sweet Stall flyer for full details, and ideas on what to make! Many thanks, Rachelle Grant (past parent) and the Kindy Anniversary Committee. The notice of the kindergarten AGM has been posted to the communication files (the black boxes on top of the bag lockers).
The kindergarten has been running as a community based not-for-profit association for 50 years, celebrating our 50th year of operation in 2016. For those who may not know, the kindergarten association is governed by a Management Committee which is comprised of a group of parent volunteers. As parents of Aspley East Kindergarten, you are all now members of this association. One way that you can make a contribution to our community during your time with us, is to nominate for a position on the Management Committee. Being on the Management Committee affords an opportunity to be involved in operating and developing the kindergarten. Many of the beautiful features (such as the new playground development) that your child will enjoy during their time here, would not have been possible without the efforts of the Management Committee who not only manage the financial and staffing affairs, but also the building maintenance and beautification of the kindergarten. As a staff, we like to take the opportunity each year, to remember and thank the previous Management Committees who have each played a part in leaving the kindergarten a little bit better each year. The AGM is a wonderful opportunity to meet other parents of the kindergarten and to gain some insight into the operations of the kindergarten over the last 12months. If you have not already considered coming to the AGM, you have until this Friday to RSVP, we would love to see you there and thank you in advance for your contribution to our kindergarten. Marie White - Centre Director If you are reading this post, you have successfully subscribed to the kindy website and will now receive regular updates on happenings at the kindergarten.
I would like to take this first opportunity to welcome you to the Aspley East Kindergarten community. As you navigate through these first kindy days, there may be tears and high emotions along with much excitement and anticipation for all the new opportunities that kindy offers. If you are feeling worried about your child throughout these first days, please do not hesitate to give us a call to check in. While the teachers are with the children, they may not always be able to speak with you, but Marie or Helen are in regular contact with the classrooms and can always give you an update about how your child is going. I trust that you have enjoyed the orientation process and feel like you have all of the information you need to begin the year and feel assured that your child will settle in to life at kindy and enjoy this very special year of making friends and learning new things. If there is anything else that you are needing, please do not hesitate to speak with your child's teacher. If you need information relating to administrative matters (fees, hats, parking etc) please speak with either Marie or Helen in the office. The teaching teams have already expressed how delighted they are with how the children are settling in, so I would like to pass on my thanks to families for the work that you have done to prepare your child for their first days of kindy. I look forward to getting to know all families throughout the year and look forward to seeing those who can make it, at the kindergarten's Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 17th February at 7:00pm.
