You might have read in the last few newsletters that the kindy playground is being redeveloped over the Christmas break. The staff have been working intensively with both the landscaper and the children to come up with a new design to reimagine the outdoor space. We are excited for the new learning opportunities that this development will open up for children and wanted to share this with you.
This first stage of the development, which will eventually make over the whole playground, will focus on the turfed and paved area in front of the deck and sandpit. In line order to inform the design, the staff have engaged with current research which finds positive developmental benefits from engaging in natural environments that foster autonomy, independence and risk taking. As a result of this, we have come up with a design that is full of natural materials which can be picked up, rolled over, run across and engaged with in many other ways. There will even be a climbing tree planted (it is represented by the big circle in the lower left corner). Here is one of the latest sketches that we have come up with. What do you think? Please drop us a line via email if you would like to make any comments or suggestions about the plan so far... Comments are closed.
